Along these same lines, the God of Israel committed himself not only to hearing the prayers of his people but also to acting on behalf of their well-being. When they were slaves in Egypt, suffering under Pharaoh’s cruelty, “God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” (Exod 2:24).
